We are experiencing a paradigm shift in technology and design. We recognize that new and better building technologies are available and architects and builders have demonstrated that they are workable. As part of a sustainable movement they are supported by consumers, eco-friendly organizations, local and national agencies.
Among the leaders in this global movement, Michelle Kaufmann is designing homes for communities to achieve sustainability in scale; KieranTimberlake has designed an adaptable dwelling from off-the-shelf parts; architect Tim Siahatgar has developed an aluminum framing system that defines modularity and can be disassembled and reassembled at a new location; Peter Jon Pearce has designed a sustainable house from a steel and glass concept tapping the most efficient structural form found in nature; Eric Owen Moss explores redefining urban spaces in the city of the future. These are just a few of the creative, visionary ideas described and illustrated in the book.
These designs are producing handsome, efficient, healthy dwellings adaptable to current lifestyles and needs. None of them are one-off custom homes; they are meant to be replicated and built in an affordable
context.
Prefab Agenda is about the transfer of systems and ideas. We can and should rethink and redefine how we build, optimize interior and exterior space, conserve resources and redefine the role of the home, the community and the city in light of what we are capable of achieving even now.
