Architect & Builder Profiles

The brainchild of architect Patrick Freet, AIA, the Loq•kit concept is
defined as the brand name of the parts and the houses that may be assembled from them and the name of the company that will produce and distribute the parts. But it‘s more.

Loq-kit is also a prefab housing strategy for manufacturing durable, affordable and ecologically sensitive homes unlike any housing technology of the past or any currently available. This holistic concept is made possible by the nature of the building system – a hybrid combination of SIP panels, the connection system, kit assembly and a modular/geometric building design schematic.

With Loq•kit components, houses are easy to assemble and yet different from one another and unique to the needs and preferences of the home owner. The interchangeable building components are designed to offer many practical benefits: Loq-kit component sizes and connection locations are coordinated geometrically. They also utilize snap-lock connections that are releasable — which means parts can be removed, interchanged or even reused on another Loq-kit house. With Loq-kit house parts, homes can be easily modified and adapted to meet a family’s changing needs.

Taking the next step, Freet and Loq-kit also redefine sustainable
building parameters by introducing the concept of housing not as a product for sale but as a service for homeowners and families. When a customer purchases a Loq•kit house, their home will be included in a lifecycle maintenance program. Should any component become undesirable in the future, either by failure or choice, the part will be
replaced for free or at a reduced price.

For example, when a family grows, Loq•kit is available to add bedrooms to the house. The family will be credited for the no-longer needed components that are removed during the remodeling process. Because the components can be removed undamaged, they can be repackaged by Loq•kit for further cost reduction to other homeowners. This is an economically-sustainable program of reuse which assures that components do not end up in landfills.
